The Door Mat by David Low. This criticises the League ineffectiveness against Japan. Japan is shown as small but walking all over the League. A member of the League is just putting on 'face saving outfit' just sending Lytton to investigate and not taking any real action against Japan. Low is hoping public opinion will put pressure on the League and take military action.
A cartoon showing the American attitude to the League, that it would become tied up in European issues and wars. Uncle Sam represents America and the American people, many of which wanted to follow a policy of isolationism.
Another Low cartoon which is acting as a warning. Mussolini is taking the lid off and releasing a creature. The creature is war and Mussolini has released it by invading Abyssinia. Again the League failed to act, Britain did not close the Suez canal, economic sanctions did not include war materials like iron, coal and oil. Plus Britain and France tried to do a secret deal with Mussolini however it was discovered by the press. This undermined the League.
A German cartoon which the God of war (Mars) visiting a weak and feeble man representing the League. It shows that the League is weak and that the Abyssinian crisis has been settled not by the League taking action, but by Mussolini invading and eventually taking the country into his empire. The German cartoonists clearly sees the League as week, Hitler took Germany out of the League in 1933, saw that it was weak and started to rearm. During the Abyssinian crisis he remilitarised the Rhineland.

Sir, you said on the blog that the aims of the league are SIDE and SITED which one is the autuallist of aims?

Go for SITED which shows a simple way of remembering their aims Luke. Stop War, Improve Peoples Lives, Trade, Enforce the Treaties and Disarmament. A good link is the Johndclare stuff for this topic. Good luck. Mr N
